Friday 1 August will see the introduction of the Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) across the north east of the state and the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) is urging residents to prepare for the fire season now.The danger period has commenced due to continuing dry conditions across the area.During the Bush Fire Danger Period any person wishing to light a fire will require a permit.For more information visit www.rfs.nsw.gov.au.

The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) will end the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period in the New England Zone March 31 this year.From April 1, fire permits will no longer be required for the Armidale, Guyra, Uralla, and Walcha Local Government Areas. However Inspector Tim Butcher said everyone must still stay within the law when it comes to using fire for hazard reduction activities."Even thougha fire permit is no longer a requirement, residents must still notify their neighbours and the local fire authority 24 hours before burning," said Insp Butcher."People should also check whether they need

Council has now implemented the restriction to limit the use of fixed hoses in Guyra to a two hour period between 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm.This restriction is necessary due to the lack of any inflow into the town water supply dams. While there have been some isolated showers of rain in the region, there is still no water runoff in the catchment area.Council appreciates the co-operation of residents to abide by the restriction and conserve water.
